Maintenance SLA

The service-level agreement that defines response and escalation rules for IBM Power or AS/400 hardware support.

Definition

A maintenance SLA defines how hardware support will respond when covered equipment fails. Useful SLA language names the service details that matter under pressure.

  • Response targets
  • Covered serials
  • Parts and labor terms
  • After-hours process
  • Escalation contacts
  • Exclusions
  • Replacement-part handling

For aging systems, the SLA should also connect to refresh triggers so maintenance does not become an indefinite substitute for lifecycle planning.

Example

A four-hour response target is only useful if the SLA also explains whether replacement parts are stocked, shipped, or sourced from secondary inventory after the ticket opens.
